Chatham Success in Prince Arthur Finals
It was a successful weekend for Chatham Bowling Club members in the finals at Prince Arthur Indoor Bowling Club on Saturday and Sunday. The club’s new men’s singles champion and ladies’ singles champion are both Chatham members.

In two very close games on Sunday Mick Day and Ladies’ Captain Jackie Spice both emerged victorious against their opponents. Mick beat Chris Morris by a single shot, 21 to 20 having scored two on the final end. |

Jackie beat Lena Foster by two shots 21 to 19. This was a very good game over 30 ends, which kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Congratulations to them both on this fantastic achievement. They now each go on to represent Prince Arthur Indoor Bowling Club in the Champion of Champions competition next indoor season. |

Overall it was a good finish to the indoor season for Chatham Bowling Club members as a Chatham member reached the final of every Prince Arthur Indoor Bowling Club competition, with the exception of the Terry Richardson trophy, but we nearly had a representative in that as well. New member Richard McAtamney unfortunately lost his semi-final on Saturday morning to Jim Masters meaning that this was the only final with no Chatham players in it.

Traditionally the outdoor season has always started with an opening match played by the Club Captain’s team against the Club President’s team. This year was no exception, but with one slight change. Instead of playing in the opening day at Chatham, they were up against each other in the final of the men’s fours competition at Prince Arthur. The President’s team emerged victorious, winning by nine shots, 22 to 13.

This was almost an ‘all Chatham’ final, as Chris Morris was the only finalist who was not a Chatham member.
On the Sunday, as well as the victories in the men’s and ladies’, singles there was another win for Chatham when Club President Graham Lock and fellow team members Pat Hepton and Al Robinson won the men’s triples. They beat Chatham member Trevor Woodhouse and his fellow team members Trevor Bucklee and former Chatham member Joe Major by ten shots, 22 to 12.
These were the only victories for Chatham members on Sunday as Jackie Spice lost her ladies’ 100 up final to former Chatham member Kath Major. It was a excellent game and was level at 85 points each when Jackie unfortunately dropped a 10. She eventually lost the match 106 to 94.
Trevor Woodhouse, Linda Woodhouse and Trevor Bucklee also lost their mixed triples final and Mick Day and Sonia Bignall lost their mixed pairs final.
It was nice to see so many spectators supporting the players, with around 50 people watching on Sunday. Prince Arthur Indoor Bowling Club also laid on plenty of food for the players and spectators
Overall it was a good weekend for the Chatham Club and a fantastic achievement to have so many members playing in the finals, even if we didn’t manage to win all of them. Here’s to many more successes in the coming outdoor season.
