Opening Day
As is traditional, the start of our outdoor season featured a match for the Archie Paine Trophy between the President's and Captain's teams.
However the President and Captain were playing in the finals of various indoor competitions at Prince Arthur. They were joined by many other indoor finalists and their supporters and that, combined with the cold and damp weather severely reduced the numbers attending our club green.
Breaking with tradition, Sylvia Pidduck led the President's team and created a precedent by being the first lady to bowl the first wood.

It seemed fitting that she should then win her match (chivalry was not involved!). On aggregate scores, however, the Captain's side won the day.
Altogether twenty two players spread over three rinks took part in the match which, in the circumstances, was highly commendable.

Despite the miserable weather everyone including several newcomers, enjoyed their time on the green although the hot tea and coffee afterwards was greatly appreciated.
