Thursday/Friday Triples, Round 5
v Civil Service, 6r, mixed, whites, 2.30pm, away, team
The team had their first real scare last night, at home to Sturdee, managing to scrap an 8 points to 4 win thanks to one triple winning on their last end and Mick Day's triple winning by a large margin. It meant an overall victory by a single shot!
The team now needs good wins in the next two games. It would be disappointing if the team faltered at this late satge.
CBC ladies covincingly beat a team from Maidstone to move through to the next round against Faversham. The home team only managed a one shot victory but the away tem won by 18
The results so far and current league positions, after 4 rounds, are now available in the Club Competitions Page.
A team from CBC beat 19 other teams to win the Chelmsford Men's Open Fours Tournament. The team of David Turner (lead), Trevor Walker (two), Trevor Skinner (three) and Graham Lock (skip) won all four of their games against Falcon, Tillingham, Essex Masonic Bowling Federation and the hosts Chelmsford scoring a total of 59 points. The runners-up, Essex County, scored 54 points making Chatham the clear winners.
Chatham retained the Bulley Cup in their annual match against the Chatham Book Society. This has been played for every year since 1933. The rink playing for the cup won 23 shots to 18. Three other rinks played in a friendly match against Chatham Book Society members. A buffet afterwards, paid for by the Book Society members bought to an end a very enjoyable evening.
Trevor Skinner and Jackie Spice fell at the last hurdle on route to Worthing when they lost their Area 9 semii final match to a pair form Thanet. On this occasion neither player was at their best and both struggled on the green, the straighter woods of their opponents being better suited to the conditions. Never the less to reach this stage of the vompetition is a tremoendous achievemment and both players are to be congratulated on their success.
Winners: David Turner, Peter Kenney & Dave Thorne (Chatham)
Runners up: Al Robinson, Martin Phillips and Barry Ryves (Rochester)
3rd Place: Dave Abrathat, Len Sharp and Mick Redman (Medway Magistrates)
The overall result was very close with the winners and the runners up having 41 points each and the teams in 3rd and 4th having 40 points each. The Chatham team had a higher shot difference, making them the overall winners, but the teams in 3rd and 4th both had the same shot difference. The 3rd place was therefore decided by a one wood play off between the two skips. Mick Redman drew his wood closer to the jack than Dave Ambrose (Borstal) so the Medway Magistrates took third place. Overall it was a great day, but it was very, very warm! Click for photos.
